Team History

Kyleigh

AlphaTauri was founded on February 14, 2020, and was originally named Toro Rosso. AlphaTauri is the second team, the first being Red Bull Racing, that Red Bull GmbH owns. In 2020, during their debut year, their driver at the time, Pierre Gasly, won in Monza, earning himself and the team their maiden wins, and the teams’ only win to this day. In the three years AlphaTauri has been a team, they’ve had 1 victory, 2 podiums, and a total of 309 points.


Team Ownership

Founded by Dietrich Mateschitz, the same man who founded Red Bull Racing. AlphaTauri’s CEO is Peter Bayer, who used to be part of the FIA. Franz Tost was the Team Principal until his retirement at the end of the 2023 season, and will now be replaced by Laurent Mekies, who was Assistant Team Principal, and Race Director, for Scuderia Ferrari. The team’s Technical Director is Jody Egginton, and their Head of Sporting Direction is Marco Perrone.


Team Name and Identity

The team was rebranded from “Toro Rosso” to “AlphaTauri” to promote Red Bull’s fashion brand, AlphaTauri. The full name of the team is Scuderia AlphaTauri, “Scuderia” being Italian for stable reserved for racing horses and is common across Italian motor racing teams.


The logo is swirled and consists of what is meant to look like a lowercase “a” and a capital “t.” In the middle of the logo is a bull, showing that it is part of Red Bull. Above the logo is “Scuderia” and under is “AlphaTauri,” the “Tauri” part of the name in bold. The colors of the logo include white and dark blue, a simple yet modern, elegant, logo. The teams’ 2023 liveries also consist of mostly white and dark blue, with a bit of black and red.


Technical Partnerships

AlphaTauri has partnered with multiple technical brands, one of them being RapidAPI, which is the world’s largest API hub, and lets millions of developers discover and connect to APIs. PKN ORLEN is AlphaTauri’s Principal Partner, one of the largest oil and gas companies in central Europe, since they announced it in January 2023. The team also partners with XMTrading, which deals with online CFD and FX brokers, with fair and trustworthy trading experiences for their customers.

Honda provides the team with engines. AlphaTauri will even partner with their sister team, Red Bull Racing. Red Bull Racing will provide more support, including sharing parts from the Red Bull 2023 livery, RB19, into AlphaTauri’s 2024 livery.


Driver Lineup

In the 2023 season alone, AlphaTauri has had 4 drivers. Yuki Tsunoda, Nyck De Vries who got replaced by Daniel Ricciardo, and Liam Lawson who took Daniel Ricciardo’s place on the grid while Daniel was healing from a broken wrist. Previous drivers include Daniil Kvyat, who drove for the team in 2020, and Pierre Gasly, who drove from 2020-2022.


Team Achievements

The team’s best achievement was their maiden win in Monza, back in 2020. 2021 was their best season, scoring 142 points by the end of the season. Their best result in the 2023 season, was P7 by their driver, Daniel Ricciardo.

Scuderia AlphaTauri’s headquarters is located in Faenza, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The team uses the same wind tunnel as Red Bull Racing but has other facilities that are their own.

The Team Principal was Franz Tost, until the end of the 2023 season. Laurent Mekies, the Ferrari sporting director, will replace Franz Tost as the Team Principal.
