Yuki Tsunoda is a 23-year-old Japanese racing driver, born on May 11, 2000, in Sagamihara, Kanagawa, Japan. He made his Formula 1™ debut in 2021 driving for Scuderia AlphaTauri, where he is now.


Early Life and Background

Tsunoda was born into a middle-class family; his father owned an auto garage. Yuki began karting locally at age 5, showing innate talent by winning the All-Japan Cadet Kart Championship™ in 2011 at 11 years old. He joined racing academies in Japan and Europe as a teenager to gain experience and train for a career.


Career Beginnings

Tsunoda won the 2018 F4 Japanese Championship™. In 2019 he raced in Formula 3™ for Jenzer Motorsport, then joined Carlin for F2 in 2020 as part of the Red Bull Junior Program. With enough super license points after just one year in F2, he was promoted to F1 by Red Bull.


Debut Season

Driving for AlphaTauri in 2021 alongside Pierre Gasly, Tsunoda scored points on his debut by finishing 9th in Bahrain. He showed raw pace but made rookie mistakes, crashing out of multiple races. He ended the season 14th overall with 49 points, including a shock 4th place in Abu Dhabi.
