Basic Information

Max Verstappen, a 26-year-old, Belgian and Dutch Formula One™ driver who was born in Hasselt, Belgium.

Early Life and Background

Max Verstappen grew up with a former Formula One™ driver father, Jos Verstappen, and a successful kart driver mother, Sophie Kumpen. When his parents separated when he was young, he went to live with his father and his sister with his mother. He grew up in a racing family like other drivers.

Career Beginnings

Like other Formula One™ drivers, he started his career when karting at a young age. He was karting regularly in 2003, and in 2005 he entered his first championship, the Belgium Championship Mini (VAS), and won all 21 races in the championship. In 2013, he won the 2013 World KZ Championship, and at 16 Verstappen moved up to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. He placed third overall in the championship. In 2015 he moved to Toro Rosso in Formula One™, and after just four races in the 2016 season, Max Verstappen got moved to Red Bull and raced alongside his new teammate, Daniel Ricciardo.

Debut Season

In 2015 he was with Toro Rosso, at 17 years old, making him the youngest F1 driver in history. He made his debut at the 2015 Australian Grand Prix™. During this season he managed to get two fourth-place positions and a total of 49 points. At the end of the season, he was awarded the Rookie Of The Year, and Personality Of The Year awards.

Teams and Transfers

The only team transfer was when he moved to Red Bull Racing in 2016, after he had only been with Toro Rosso for one season.

He’ll also go hang out with his girlfriend, Kelly Piquet, and her daughter (not Max’s) Penelope or “P.”
